Cruelty in a Box

While on vacation this summer, a cousin of mine bought a 6x6 inch cube by Wild Creations that contained two African Dwarf frogs. I remembered reading something online saying that they where cruel habitats for these amphibians. She did get them and they are doing fine. They usually do fine enough for a year or so (long enough for people to write good reviews). Then they die. Many think, "Yeah, they are frogs, they are not supposed to live too long." The thing is, the frogs that where bought, then transfered to amore suitable habitat are going to live for another 13 years.

African Dwarf Frogs Careguide (Proper Care Info Provided by Pet Smart)

Lifespan: 10-15 years
Funny Wild Creations doesn't mention that anywhere on their site

Size: Up to 3" (7 cm) long
Wild Creations is really bad at research, or doesn't expect the frogs to live long enough to out grow their tank.

Minimum Aquarium Size: 5 gallons
The frogs are provided, like, a quart.

The water should have a filter.
(They say it is naturally filtered. Yeah, like the air in our homes.)

The basic food should be a sinking pellet and should be fed all they can eat for 3 minutes twice a day.
Wild Creations provides flakes. And the instructions to feed them twice a week. That's skipping 12 meals.

Here is the regular maintenance schedule. Fun and easy right?

The frogs start to show signs that they are sick. These are some things to watch for:

Thinness
Decreased Appetite
Swollen Joints
Excessive Shedding of Skin
Inflamed Skin
Discolored Skin
Abdominal Swelling
Death (If this symptom is displayed, your too late.)

I examined the report by the Wild Creation's chief veterinarian.

No where does she mention the situations the frogs are being placed in. And to top that off, they either changed the operation drastically or the report is a total lie. Why do I say this? A PETA (Yes, the naked people holding the signs) undercover investigation filmed the entire operation.

Lastly, do you know any legit pet suppliers who are members of the Toy Industry Association.
FROGS ARE NOT TOYS!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!
HOW DO I GET THIS THING OFF CAPS LOck?
I figured it out.

  1. Any person buying a pet should do the proper research before buying it.
